Congratulations to Dominik Braun on completing hisMaster’s Thesis on the topic of the “Optimization of a Neural Interface Embedded in a Graphical User Interface to Control Assistive Devices”!

Dominik’s work focused on optimizing and embedding a Neural Interface using real-time decomposition of HD-sEMG to capture motor unit activity into a graphical user interface to ease the use in experiments. This impressive work has immense potential, particularly for spinal cord injured (SCI) patients, who can greatly benefit from this innovative interface.

By utilizing the smoothed discharge rate derived from motor unit spiking activity, Dominik has shown that patients with spinal SCI  can follow a given trajectory with high accuracy, opening up new possibilities for enhanced mobility and control. Furthermore, the thesis explored the application of this neural interface as a control signal for healthy individuals, enabling them to control a virtual hand.

We eagerly anticipate Dominik’s future contributions as a Ph.D. student and are excited about the exceptional work he will undertake. Congratulations once again, and we wish Dominik continued success in his academic pursuits!
